The brand is very British in both style and origin, and an equally obvious feature of many Brit fashion fans wardrobes as the Fred Perry polo shirt. The brand was launched in Brighton in 1963 by Ben Sherman (born Alfred Benjamin Sugerman), but it was in 1967 when he opened the shop on Carnaby Street that sales really picked up speed. Mods soon picked up Ben Sherman as their short of choice when the mods became skinheads a few years later left the shirt hung on.  Ben Sherman menswear collection is now broad,  often a mishmash of pop, mod and rude boy style with the classic shirts, pork-pie hats and narrow ties.

Did you know: when the brand was at it’s height of success in 1972, and Ben Sherman had just enhanced production with a new factory to his employees great surprise, Ben Sherman sold the company. Shortly thereafter he moved to Australia with his fourth wife. Ben Sherman died in 1987 at age 62.
