Vintage Clothing

As Vintage Clothing shows no signs of losing appeal, our fashion editor lists his top tips.

What determines the price of a vintage garment?
- All sorts of things. Age, condition, brand and history all come under consideration. Although trend factor comes into play also.

Can I haggle?
- You look at the price tag on the damaged garment  and it is already included in the price. If something is broken in the shop there is of course a possibility of a discount but you must remember that the garment is used and therefore usually worn.

What brands are good?
- Levi’s big E jeans and jean jackets are selling well. They have a high collector value and are not easy to obtain. Christian Dior cardigans and U.S. army clothes are also popular. All workwear clothing tends to work well because they keep for a while.

Is any type of clothes that are actually better used than new?
- Jackets, accessories, jeans and t-shirts. All garments that look better after using them a few times and they get a nice and natural abrasion.

What quality indicators should I look for?
- Look at the label, how clothes sit on the body and the material. You can also take a look at the seams to see that they measure up. Mature garments are usually better made than virgin and last longer.
